When the Helensville Town Board get into financial circumstances, we hope they will take a leaf out of the Dargaville books, by commencing to improve and beautify the township and banks of rhe river.

Mr G. E. Elson, chemist, next F.OHO Office, having decided to take over the Grey Lynn Pharmacy, Great North Road (a few doors past the Reservoir) will close down his business here as Irom Saturday next. He requests that all accounts due to him be sent in at once.
Included in the Gisborne draft of the Thirteenth Reinforcements! which left recently, was a recruit of 6ft 9ins in height and weighing 16 stone. He was the tallest man in Government employin Poverty Bay. and will be the tallest soldier in the New Zealand Army.
The many friends of Mr C. H. Cleveland (husband), and Mrs Parker (mother), of the Aurora Hotel, Victoria Street, Auckland, will regret to learn that Mrs Cleveland died at the Auckland Hospital, Sunday, 19th inst., at the early age of 28. Deceased, who was universally liked by all who,came in contact with her, leaves two little children (a boy and a girl); she was a niece of Mr Maurice O'Connor (Auckland), and for a fewyears, with her husband and mother, helped to carry on the Star Hotel at Kawakawa. Our sympathies go out to the sorrowing family. :\
An extensive tree-planting scheme is being instituted by the] Mayor (Mr J. A. McLean). The intention is to plant wide shelter belts on the western boundary of Mt. Wesley Park, and to carry out similar work in Selwyn Park, and to plant rows of shelter trees in Victoria and Hokianga Roads, and in Gordon, Normanby, and Gladstone Streets. Councillors are to forthwtth inspect the localities, and price quotations of suitable growths are being obtained from nurserymen—Dargaville "'Times." . .
Something entirely new and fascinating, the most remarkable as well as dramatic sensation in motion pictures, entitled " The Dead Secret " (by Wilkie Collins), will be the principal attraction at the Star Theatre to-morrow (Friday) evening. At the same Theatre on Saturday, "A Fight to the Death," a magnificent story of love and hatred, with a surprising ending, will be a strong feature, and the supporting programme will include the arrival of the Willochra and other films both interesting and amusing. On Wednesday next the public will be given opportunity of seeing one of the finest and most clever film plots ever conceived, entitled " 413." This story teems with exciting incidents, ending with the unmasking of the " hero'1 who so oleverly impersonates three individuals.
