THE CAMP AT TAUMARERE.
THE camp is in an ideal locality, not more than a hundred yards from the railway station. A belt of trees borders the camp on the railway side, while at the back the everlasting hills render the site one of most picturesque appearance.
Colonel Steadman, of Whangarei, is Commanding Officer of the camp, with Captain Turley (Helensyille) as Adjutant, and Lieut. Dick, Supply Officer. The other officers are : —A Company, Capt. Blundell,. Lieuts. Kitchener and Webster; B Company, Lieut. Cliff; C Company, Lieut. Gribble (temporarily in charge) ; D Company, Lieuts. Airy, Bayly and Irvine. The Chaplains are the Revs. Baker (Anglican) and Spiers (resident chaplain). There is a first-rate and very orderly canteen, under Messrs Wallace, and requisites are supplied at town prices.
There are 350 men in camp, and as the Army Service Corps left on Thursday, there has been a goodly muster, all things considered.
There was a Church Parade on Sunday at 10.30 a.m., when the music was supplied by the fine 15th North Auckland Regimental Band. —" Luminary."
