JOY BELLS AT MAKARAU
[own correspondent]
A PRETTY wedding was celebrated at the residence of Mr and Mrs Flynn on Tuesday, 18th inst., when their daughter Winnie was married to Mr John Becher, eldest son of the late Mr Becher of Ahuroa. The ceremony took place punctually at noon, and was performed by the Rev, Father Kelly. The bride, who looked extremely pretty, was attired in a handsome embroidered gown, with the orthodox wreath and veil. She was attended by Misses Agnes and Mary Flynn (sisters of the bride) and Miss Lizzie Becher (sister of the bridegroom), who each wore pretty embroidered dresses, with pale blue caps and belts. Mr R. Week was best man, and Messrs J. Scholium and G. Flynn acted as groomsmen. A splendid wedding breakfast was set out and partaken of by a large number of guests, after which the newly-married couple left for Kaukapakapa, to catch the express to Auckland. The bride's going-away dress was a becoming navy blue tailor-made, with pretty white hat. 'Rice and old shoes were plentifully bestowed on the young couple, and they took with them the good wishes of a large circle of friends.
In the evening a large number of young people met in the Hall on the invitation of Mr and Mrs Flynn, and a very enjoyable social evening was spent, dancing being indulged in until long after midnignt. Messrs C. and T. Hooper rendered good dance music. During the evening Mr C. Hooper, on behalf of the guests, thanked Mr and Mrs Flynn for their kindness and hospitality. In the words of the young people: "It was a jolly good spree." — Makaru, 24th January, 1916.
