HELENSVILLE TOWN BAND

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—With your kind permission I would again like to bring the Band before the notice of the Helensville public. The Band met on January 6th., when there was a splendid response, and a large amount of business was done. Mr Elliott, representing the Town Board, also attended, and we made good use of him, showing our appreciation of the Board's interest by making him President. A. secretary and working committee were chosen, and instructed to formulate rules. Mr Carter's offer to conduct the Band was accepted unanimously, and if the enthusiasm exhibited at this meeting is maintained we shall in a very short time have in Helensvill c a Band which all will be proud of. The entrance fee was fixed at ss, and members' subs, at 5s per quarter. Arrangements are also being made with the Town Board for them to have control of instruments and general ■ Band property. The names of many resdents in the district were suggested as vicepresidents, and we trust they will all give us at least their moral support, and where able, some little financial aid also. Since this general meeting, the committee have met, and have a erode of rules ready to submit to the Band for approval; they have sent away two instruments for repairs, and have arranged with Mr Becroft for the Star Theatre supper-room in which to practice as from February 3rd. The Band has 12 instruments and four members have their own. We have 13 members who are players, three learners, and two waiting for instruments, making in all 18 members and a conductor. I think that looks healthy for a start, especially when we remember that five old members are not able to be with us. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc.,

Isaac Hughes, Hon. Secretary. Helensville, January 24, 1916.
