NORTHERN QUEEN CONCERT.

A CONCERT, promoted by Mrs McGarvey, in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, was held in the Star Theatre, Helensville on Monday evening last, inst. The Hall was crowded to the doo_rs, a number of the audience only having standing room. The concert was given by the Te Pua school children, who, under the careful training of the prompter, were in the best of form, and consequently every item was encored.. The stage was affectively decorated, a large Union Jack being draped, at the back. Miss Neighbour and Mr McGarvey, junr., contributed a, patriotic song each, for which they were vociferously encored. The programme opened with a tableaux entitled " Britannia and Her Allies," which was a beautiful display. Misses M. and A. Monk gave a nice pianoforte duet. The school boys were funny in "Ten Little Nigger Boys," and Joyce Bradly recited "The Reason Why," followed by the Cachucha Dance by the school girls, in costume. Kathleen and Trevor McGarvey were quaint in " My Pretty Maid," and the recitation " Little Orphan Annie," was nicely rendered by Nellie Barnes. Mollie Williams, a native girl, took the house by storm with her' rendering of " Come take a trip in my Airship," she has a sweet clear voice. School boys gave "The House that Jack Built" in a masterly style, a song " Gretcben" by Miss K. McGarvey, and the tableau " The Flower Queen," terminated the first part of the programme. After the interval " Beauty and the Beast" was staged, and caused great amusement, all the performers acting very well indeed. The cast was : Pasha (a merchant), M. McNaughton ; Myra and Linda (his daughters), N. Barnes and A. Jowitt; Nina (Beauty), E. Eddleston; the Beast (afterwards a Prince), K. McGarvey ; the fairy moonbeam, A. Moyle; the attendant fairies, J. Bradly, E. Eddleston, P. Osborne and A, McCarthy; pages, F. Jowitt and A.' Monk. At the conclusion Mr E. T. Field thanked all present for their support, and mentioned that the company would repeat the concert in a month's time, with an altered programme. The singing of the Nation Anthem, followed by a dance, terminated a most enjoyable evening's entertainment. The takings anlounted to about £25.
