Servia's Heroic Fight — Resisting Strong Force—Expecting Allied Advance—Situation Greatly Improved—Bulgarians Suffer Heavy Loss
The French have advanced in the south of Servia] doubling the extent of theii.' territory and capturing several villages on the Strumnitza front. They repulsed the Bulgarians with great losses. The British are also clearing the enemy from their sector.
A fierce battle is raging at Kachanik, 17 miles north-west of Uskub, where the Servians are resisting a large force of the enemy, in .the hope that the advance of the British and French from the south will bring, relief. A Servian success is reported from Tetovo, west of Uskub. *
It is reported that the Austrian and German Ministers at Athens asked Greece to use force to stop the allies landing at Salonika. King Constantine replied that, Salonika being a free port, the disembarkation did not constitute a transgression of neutral rights-. Austrian aeroplanes dropped bombs on the fruit and vegetable market at Verona, Italy, killing 30 civilians and injuring 48.
