Russians in Roumania — British Troops Reinforced — Kitchener's Visit to East
The Bucharest correspondent of . the London Times states that the1 Russians have landed a small force of men and artillery at Silistria, a Roumanian town on the Danube. The same correspondent states that if 200,000 Russians and additional French and British troops are sent to the* Balkans, Roumania and Greece will join the allies.
The reason for the despatch of Earl Kitchener to the Near East was the receipt by the Imperial Government of news which Sir John' Simon, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, describes as "very grave, sudden, and unexpected."
The Russians have broken the Austro-German front three times recently, and have captured 122,000 prisoners in ten weeks.
The members of the new War Committee of the British Cabinet are as follows : Mr Asquith, Mr A. J. Balfour, Mr Lloyd George, Mr Bonar Law, and Mr Reignald McKenna.
