Mr. J. Gordon Coates, M.P., for Kaipara, was a passenger from Wellington by the afternoon express on Monday. He proceeded to Helensville by train later/in the afternoon. We have not heard of him since.
A public meeting was held in the Parakai Hall, on Wednesday evening last, to raise funds for the hospital ship, when it was decided to canvass the district immediately. \

FEdgecumbe, who has been surveying " fancy " greens and giving out free levels, for " sport," left here on Tuesday, for Te Awamutu, fully convinced that Helensville has cured him of rheumatism, and that the " concivial few " are (have one' yourself.)
The writs are now out for the Bay of Islands election, and though the so-called Reform Party complain of Sir Joseph Ward running round'on behalf of Mr. G. G. Menzies (his pick), Mr. Attorney-General (Money, Money) Heardman is trotting round with, the late expelled member, Mr. Vernon Reed, accompanied by his bosom chum, the new candidate, "Willie" Stewart.
Complaints have reached the ECHO and the police, of larrikins amusing themselves at night by taking a certain horse (others may be involved) out of a settler's enclosure, and then driving the same along the road out of the way, and so inconveniencing the gwner during the early dark mornings, who/has some distance to travel, and otherwise making him use language which he otherwise would not. We hope the police will bring the culprits to justice.
