AWAROA BOWLING CLUB.
PROMENADE CONCERT AND
PRESENTATIONS.
IN TKE NEW THEATBB.
ONE HUGE SUCCESS
The Echo feels sure that the Social in connection with the winding^up of the Awaroa BowliDg Club's season, which took place in the new Helensville Theatre, on the evening of Thursday, lyth inst., will ever be re. meinbered as one of the most enjoyablo eveuts of the times.
With regard to the Theatre itself Mr Jas. Stewart spared no pains in making his first real effort to cater for tho social amusement of the pub« lie, which was appreciated by oneauA all. The stage was his last finishiMPv up touch, and as if by a magic wand the electric lights showed up the gay scenp to perfection; the seating ac- " commodation with the mirrored pillars, the well-equipped dressing rooms for ladies and gentlemen, and with the whole large building from floor to ceiling, match-lined in oiled riinu, give Helensville,,much to boast about. When we can assure one and all that there is nothing to equal it outside Auckland, either North ■or . South in the Province, not even excepting Whaugarei or Hamilton^ right here then Mr Stewart has to be conr gratulated. The large floor space, which had but recently been planed for its fust light fantastic patrons, was in really good order , though a few of those who know all about the enthralling waltz,;say it could be improved upon, which however, cannot be while skating is indulged in. The sealing- accommodation was fairly crowded, the large centre space being left clear. Miss Eimmer was j engaged as pianist for the occasion, and, almost needless to say, carried out her musical duties with credit, at intervals during song and dance*. being relieved by Mrs Stevenson and Miss K. Lycis. The ball was opened with a lively waltz, and with amazing regularity | and consistency, the programme was ; carried on through out with unflagging zeal, manj- songs being contributed during dance intervals by Misses Stevenson and Fletcher, Mesdames James and Stevenson, and Messrs Tassell, Lyons and Carter-, all of | whom were vociferously encored. The talented vocalists, exceeded almost anything to be promiscuously picked up in Auckland, which is saying a great deal. Card tables were to be found in cosy corners for non dancer's, and none were neglected in any respent, Messrs T. Dwerryhouse, T. Cal* lagher, R. Smith and G. E. Murphy, having the whole management of the danos, made efficient M's.O., while Mr A. Hammond saw that the programme was faithfaliy carried oat. Mesdames D. Stewart, H. W. Stringer. E. T. Field, Ooutts, Hill and Walters -vere responsible for the" catering of the supper, most of the members' wives contributing the good things provided. Pkesekxations. Mr E. Thurlow Field, secretary of, the Awaroa Bowling Club, presided' owing to the absence of the President, Mr Daniel Stewart, through sickness. The first presentation was a handsomely, framed enlargecent of the photo taken of those present on the , opening day of the' Club, Mr Jas. Stewart accepting the same on behalf of the President, from the hands of Mr A. Bishop, Vice-president. Mr A. Hammond, as winner of the championship, was presented with a pair of bowls, and Mr R, Smith, as winner of the handicap- event was also the recipient of a pair of bowls, while Messrs Graham and Ouilens, who won the Cocks o' the North the most number of times throughout the season, received prizes given by Mr A. Bishop. Mr Murphy's prize for best amongst firsNvea* P l**6™* is still hand, the three who had to play off, because they were equal, namely, Messrs Coutts; Gallagher and Murphy, not being able to toe the mark before the close or the season.
During the.evening Mr Field, sec - retary, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies for their valuable assistance in making the function bucn a huge success, which, n 9 edle s to say, was carried by acclamation
