HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD

THURSDAY. MAY 13, 1915

PRESENT Messrs E. T. Field (chairman), J. Lambert, J. Wilson, T. Elliott, Becroft, G. Sellars, and the clerk (Mr H.W.. Stringer). MINUTES Minutes of the "previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence read and either dealt with or laid upon the table. CROSSING SIGNS A letter was received from the Railway Department, asking the Board where to erect crossingsigns.—On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Comr. Wilson, the Clerk was instructed to reply that one be erected at corner of Mill Street and First Avenue, and another in Mill Street opposite the Butter Factory. A QUESTION OF TAR The Auckland Gas Company wrote stating they could not complete the Board's order for tar for some few weeks, owing to the great demand in Auckland. —It was decided, on the motion of Comr. Lambert, seconded by Comr. Sellars, to notify the Gas Company that as it is now too late for tarring, the Board will not require any more tar until next season. FISHERMEN'S WHARF Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Comr. Lambert, That the Board procure some more timber to complete the decking of the Fishermen's Wharf; cost not to exceed £6. Also to make application to the Marine Department to have the wharf vested in the Town Board. —Carried unanimously. A progress payment of £120 was passed to the contractor. BILLIARD ROOM HOURS An application (accompanied by a petition signed by 25 residdents) was made by Mr F. Tucker billiard saloon keeper, asking that an extension of time for closing be made to 11 p.m., instead of 10 p.m. as at present.— Comr. Sellars proposed, Comr. Lambert seconded, That the petition be forwarded to the police for a report on same. MORE LIGHT WANTED The Clerk was instructed to have repairs effected to the street lamps where required. Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Comr. Becroft, and carried. Comr.Elliott proposed and Com Becroft seconded. That the Postal Department be asked on what terms they would be prepared to keep a lamp alight on the street outside the Post Office, —Carried. TELEPHONE EXCHANGE On the motion of the Chairman seconded by Comr. Lambert, it was decided that the Board write to the Postal officials, asking that the Telephone Exchange be kept open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. BUILDING PERMIT An application, accompanied by plan, etc., was made for a building permit for house to be erected for Mr G. Vazey in Awaroa Road. —Granted. THE VALUATOR WANTED On the motion of Comr. Elliott, seconded by Comr. Sellars, the Clerk was instructed to write an urgent letter to the District Valuer, asking when he proposed visiting Helensville to value new improvements. GUARDING AGAINST FIRE Comr. Elliott, proposed ""and Co mr. Sellars seconded, That the Captain of the Fire Brigade be asked to have men placed at the doors of the places of amusement to enable the doors to be opened immediately in case of rush or panic.—Carried. STRAY ANIMALS Complaints having been received of horses straying in Awaroa Road, it was decided that the Ranger's attention be drawn to same. Proposed by Comr. Elliott, second by Comr. Becroft. TRIMMING HEDGES On the motion of Comr. Becroft seconded by Comr. Elliott, the Clerk was instructed to notify two residents of Commercial Road to have their hedges trimmed back. FOOTPATH REPAIRS An application to have repairs done to the footpath on the south side of Bridge Street, was referred to the Roads Committee. FINANCE Several accounts were passed for payment.
