Attack on La Bassae — The Allies on Gallipoli —In Impregnable Position — Australian General Wounded

The British are . victoriously continuing the attack on the German lines north of La Bassee All the German trenches along a two-mile front have been captured. The enemy has lost heavily. In one instance a detachment of 700 Germans was exterminated by cross fire.

In Flanders the Germans are still falling back before the French advance, and have now evacuated all their positions west of the Yser Canal. The French have carried the attack across the Canal, capturing a strongly fortified house.

General Bridges, commandant of the Australian force, has been wounded at the Dardanelles.

A message from MrAshmead Bartlett says the British have forced the Turks to disclose the strength and character of their defences of Achi Baba. Behind these heights there are other formidable positions to be taken hill by hill and valley by valley.

Another battle has been fought in the air between a German Zeppelin and British aeroplanes, the Zeppelin which raided Ramsgate being attacked on its return voyage by naval aeroplanes. Bombs were dropped on the airship by one of the aeroplanes, an explosion resulting in one of its compartments.

It is reported that another Zeppelin was wrecked by gun fire off the French coast, its ciew of 7 officers and 33 men being made prisoners.
