THE "LYRIC FOUR" AT PARAKAI
On Thursday evening last a very enjoyable concert was given at Parakai by the Lyric Four, in aid of the Hall Fund. Both the 'bus and brake running from Helensville. were crowded, and a full house bore testimony to the fact that " something good" was expected. Nor was the audience disappointed, for the popular quartette (Messrs W. Aspinall, H. Richards, A. McElwain, and J. W. Ryan) appeared to great advantage in all their numbers. Mr Allan McElwain, whose every item was vociferously encored, delighted the audience with his humorous recitals, and laughter was the order of the evening. Among the quartettes, which were greatly appreciated and applauded, were : ' Chestnuts,' ,' Kentucky Home,' 'Simple Simon,' 'Village Pump' (in costume), ' A Perfect Day,' ' Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep,' and the cycle ' Four Jolly Sailors.' Other vocal items were : ' Drum Major,' ' Somewhere,' and ' Tipperary,' Mr Ryan; 'The Secret,' and " Annie Laurie,' Mr Richards; ' The Anchor's Weighed," Mr Aspinall. The accompaniments were played by Mr Piper. After the concert dancing was indulged in until the " wee srna' hours."
