CHURCH PARTY & SOCIAL.

A MOST successful euchre party and social was giyen by the Ladies' Guild in connection with St. Matthew's Church, Helensville, on Monday evening last, in the Star Theatre, quite 100 ladies and gents, being present. The feature of the evening was the tickets(promoted by Mrs Walters) representing the most notable army and naval commanders, and wives' in connection with the present war. There were about 70 players. The first prize for gentlemen (presented by Mrs Cucksey) was won by Mr R. Smith, and the first prize for the ladies (presented by Mrs White) was won by Mis^ Rimmer. Mrs Walters also presented two consolation. prizes, Mrs Field whining that for the ladies, and Mr Carlton winning the gents. After the card tables were cleared, refreshments were handed round by the ladies, then followed a Cinderella dance, the party breaking up at midnight. A substantial sum was realised, and it is proposed to hold similar socials on the first Monday in each month during the winter season. Much praise is due to Mesdames Field (hon. secretary), White, Walters, Lambert, Vercoe, Meinhold and Rose; and Misses Walters and Becroft, who were responsible for the success of the function.
