HELENSVILLE GOLF CLUB.
A meeting of those interested in the game was held last evening. There were about 30 people present. It was decided to form a club to be called the ' Helensviile Golf Club.'
The election of officers resulted:— President: Thomas Elliott, Esq.; Committee : Gentlemen — Messrs Carter, Wilson, Hill, Peacock, and Rose; ladies —Mesdames Eames, Peacock, Rose, Carter, and Meinhold; Hon. Sec. and Treas., Mr G. Murphy.
Subscriptions were fixed at; —Ladies, 5s per annum ; gents, 10s. ,No. entrance fee.
It was decided to' open the links on Saturday afternoon, 15th inst., at 2 p.m. in conjunction with which - a mixed foursome match will be played. Post entries in pairs ; draw for partners ; 18 holes ; medal play ; combined handicap. Afternoon tea will be provided. All members, their friends, and others interested, are cordially' invited to attend.
The President, Mr T. Elliott, has offered the Club the use of his property gratituously.
Mr Elliott was made a life member of the Club in recognition of his most generous offer.
The land is most suitably adapted for golf, and a splendid nine-hole course has been chosen. A working bee has been arranged for Saturday afternoon next, and it is hoped a good many will be there.
All present /at • the meeting were elected members-of the Club, and others have intimated their desire to join, so that in a short time the Club should compare "very favourably with any country club.
