A report from Warsaw states that the Russians are initiating a great offensive movement, in which cavalry will play a leading part. Since they broke .the German advance, the Russians have perfected their field fortifications before the Vistula, along a front of 80 miles. Their future policy is to hold as many Germans as possible in their present positions, and bring up fresh, armies to support, at selected points, the offensive movement, which is to be begun by cavalry. Reports from France state that the allies have repulsed attacks at various points. At Lassigny, near Noyon, the Germans attempted to surprise the French defenders, 7000 infantry and also a cavalry regiment' being employed. The French opened fire at close range and completely routed the enemy. Field-Marshall vonFalkenhayn Commander-in-Chief of the German Army, is reported to have resigned.
