FRIDAY
In connection with the German aerial raid on Norfolk, there are conflicting reports as to whether the aircraft which dropped bombs on Yarmouth was a Zeppelin or an aeroplane. Contradictory statements are also made regarding the number of aerial raiders taking part. Norfolk coastguards say they saw four Zeppelins^ some fishermen declare they saw six, while the time-table of a Zeppelin which dropped bombs at Yarmouth, Sherringham, Cromer, Hunstanton, Sangringham and King's Lynn would seem to indicate that the raid was carried out by one Zeppelin, which dropped 32 bombs. / I The British, on January 15, captured Frelinghien, near Armentieres. A great inundation of the district traversed by the River Lys is reported to be imminent. The Germans are striving to widen the wedge they succeeded in driving in at Soissons, with the object of enabling a force to cross the river without endangering their flanks. The Russians have gained several victories over the German and Austrian forces in the east. The Paris Figaro declares that Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece will shortly enter into the war.
