A British submarine has entered the Dardanelles and sunk the Turkish battleship Messudieh. The submarine dived under five rows of mines, and returned by the same dtfficult • route, after torpedoing the Messudieh. An Amsterdam cablegram says there is a concentration of German troops near Courtrai, thus indicating that the German advance on Calais has been abandoned in favour of attacks further inland. The allies have made progress along the Yser Canal, and have repulsed the German attacks in Alsace. The London Daily Chronicle's correspondent at Dunkirk says there is a noticeable weakening ol the German cannonading and infantry demonstrations in Flanders. The Germans have abandoned many trenches.
