WOODHILL

A successful Patriotic Relief Concert and dance was held in the Hall on the 4th inst., and presided over by Mr Sims. The following ladies and gentlemen contributed pleasing items : — Overture, pianoforte solo, Miss E. McDonald ; songs, Mr J. Lyons, Miss W.alker, Mr F. Jackson, Mrs Sim, Miss A. Pengelly, Miss G. McDonald, Mr Turner, Mr Mclndoe, and Mr Davis ; recitations, Miss J. Sutherland, and Mr R. Hoe ; instrumental selections, Mesdames Sim and Turner and Mr Sim. "God Save the King" was rendered by the assembly. During the supper interval Mr R. Hoe presented Corporal P. Fulton with the sum of £5 4s, subscribed by the people of Woodhill as a small memento of their appreciation and good wishes on the eve of his departure with the Expeditionary Force. Mr Hoe said they were all proud of their young men going to the world conflict to fight for civilisation and freedom against a brutal military tyranny; and whatever the future might have in store for them the names of the members of the Expeditionary Force were inscribed on the roll of honour and would go down to posterity. Mr J. W. Fulton, on behalf of Mrs Fulton, himself and son, thanked the assembly for their kindness. All then joined in singing " He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and " Auld Lang Syne." A very enjoyable dance followed, the music being provided by Miss K. Lyons and Messrs Osborne and Paul.
