WAIMAUKU
On Wednesday, September 2, a Patriotic Social was given by the ladies of Waimauku, and proved a great success. Tickets had been selling well for some days . .beforehand, and many who could " not attend the function willingly gave towards the object, so that the proceeds amounted to nearly £20. The Hall was very prettily decorated with red, white and blue flowers and flags, and across the front of the stage -" Rule Britan- ' ma" was worked in red, white and blue lettering. Mr V. KerrTaylor made a short speech, after which all joined heartily in singing the National Anthem, La Marseillaise and Rule Britannia, Dancing then began, interspersed with song as follows : Song, "The Deathless Army," Mr trio. Ye Shepherds Tell Me," Miss Wilkins, Miss Jenkins, and Mr S. Johnson; patriotic song, Mr Gucksey ; patriotic song, Mr J. Lyons ; song, "My Dear Soul," and (encore) 'The Emblem," Miss Fletcher ; comic song, "The Man they Left Behind," Mr Ingram. Supper was handed round and the good things provided by^the ladies were much appreciated.
