MAKARAU ITEMS
(From Own Correspondent) At the conclusion of the Church service on Sunday, the Rev. J. A Lamond, on behalf of the congregation, presented Mx G. Hooper with a handsomely bound hymn-book, as a slight mark of their appreciation of his swaoes as organist during the past fourteen years. Mr Hooper has resigned on account of advancing years. °
A surprise party waited on Mr and Mrs C. Hooper on Tuesday evening, and a very enjoyable time was spent. After a most bountiful supper had been partakenl of, Mr W. Gardner thanked Mr and Mrs Hooper for their kindness to the unexpected guests, and three hearty cheers were given them. The National Anthem was sung with much feeling before the company dispersed.
t^w n ST?f ul Soclal was held the Ha [last Friday evening, to farewell Mr Bilkey, our popular schoolmaster, SX-ii 6aV^ ng to ke up his duties at Redhill M 3 ssrs C. and T. Hooper kindly provided music for dancing, and a splendid supper' was provided by lady friends. During the evening Messrs T. Hooper and W.Gardner spoke in regard to'the liking and esteem felt for Mr Bilkey throughout the district; though he has only been here six months, he IL 1 ht? me become very p°pular V^ithboth young and old. Mr Bilkey feelingly responded, thanking all for their Kindness and good wishes
