TOWN BOARD ELECTION
THE election for a member to fill an extraordinary vacancy in the Helensville Town Board, took place yesterday (Thursday) under most favourable auspices, it being the statutory half-holiday and a most glorious day for mid-winter. Vehicles of almost every descrip* tion were flying hither and thither all the afternoon, and irrespective of party conveyed voters to the polling booth, which was presided over by Mr W. R. Fosbroke, returning officer. The fair sex, who were greatly in evidence, appeared to take much interest in recording their votes by placing a cross in the square opposite their favourite candidate, the three running being E. T. Field, James F. Lambert, and G. H. Sellars.
About an hour after the closing of the poll, the result was declared as follows :— Field 93 votes Lambert 58 Sellars 106 " The highest being declared the successful candidate.
