* ! Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— A.t our weekly Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday August 6, our entry of beef comprised 322, head, and all of nice quality. The demand was irregular, and prices like-wise. In some instances last week's figures ruled, "but generally values were easier. Choice ox sold to Ll 13s, prime Ll 7s 6d to Ll 10s, cows and heifers Ll 4s to Ll 9s, steers ranged in price from L 8 to LlB 10s, cows and heifers L 5 to Ll2 10s, 12 extra choice quality steers, from Mr Richard Rey* nolds, Cambridge, averaged Ll4 6s 9d. A fair supply of fat and young calves, met with a brisk sale at slightly firmer rates, Runners made from L 4 15s to L 5 10s, heavy suckers L 3 3s to L 4 ss, medium suckers L 2 5s to L 2 16s, light Ll 5s to Ll 18s, small and fresh dropped 3s to Ll 2s (69 sold). The sheep pens were filled with mutton of choice quality, the bulk being heavy prime wethers, with several pens of extra heavy ewes. There was a strong demand and keen competition, with a further advance in values. Extra heavy prime wethers Ll 12s to Ll 14s 6d, prime heavy "Ll 8s 6d to Ll 11s, medium to heavy Ll 5s 10 Ll Bs, light and unfinished lOs to Ll 4s, extra heavy prime ewes Ll 9s 6d to Ll 11s 9d, good Ll 4s to Ll Bs, best hoggets Ll Is to LI 6s, good 18s 6d to Ll, unfinished 11s to 15s (1896 sold). Pigs penned in large numbers, and showed a further deolm9 in values. Choppers L 4 10s to L 6 4s, heavy baconers L 3 18s to L 4 7s, lighter L 2 16s to L 3 10s, large pomers L 2 10s to, L 3 ss, smaller Ll 18s to L 2 7s, light' Ll 5s to Ll 14s slips to Ll Is, weaners 12s to 16s (258 sold).
