PARAKAI SOCIAL.

On Thursday evening last, a very enjoyable concert and dance was held ■in the Parakai Hall. A most ablebodied committee, with. Miss M. Nieholis as their secretary, succeeded in securing a first-class programme, The object of the function was to obtain, funds to help to pay for having acetylene gas installed in the Pnrakai Hall; this is a great improvement, and as there was a. fair audience it is to be hoped the ladies will have some satisfaction for their efforts. The programme was as follows :—Overture, "Hussarinett" was played by Miss M. Eimmer in her usual finished style; Mr Screaton sang "The Admiral's Broom" in good rollocting form, giving " The Deathless Army " as an encore. Miss Eosa Taylor (Auckland) sang two little Irish songs (a) "My First, Love," (b\ " You'd tetter Ask Me,', very effectively, her facial expressions and pleasing manner helping the sence of the songs. For an encore Miss Taylor sang "Maggie, the Cows are in the Clover." Mr Lowe's item, '-Asthore," suited him admirably, and being recalled gave " Oh, I! Vat a Buzzinoss," and " When Mother takes to Papering,-'1 The next item was a song " The Dear little Irish Girl," by Miss H. Granley, with an Irish gig, who responded with the Highland £Ling, both steps being neatly executed. • 'A recitation by Miss Taylor was well given; Mr D. Ronnie's rendering of '• There's a Land," was good, and he gaye '* My Am Folk, as an encore. The second part of the programme opened with " The Postilion " by Mr Harvey, who also pang "Long ago in Alcala." " Melisanae in the Wood," was nicely sang "by Miss F. Donovan, as was also "My Little Exquisite Love," as an encore. The duet " Excelsoir," by Miss Bimmer and Mr Lowe neceseitaed a repetition. " Doreen," by Mr Ronnie was well given, and Mr Lowe followed with "The other Department," for which he received an en~ core. Master Aitkenhead's recitations " How MacDougall topped the and " How we won the Ribbon," were well given, as also was Miss Tayloi's final song, "Smiles," and " G-od Save the King," brought a splendid programme to a close, After the hall had been cleared a number indulged in dancing till midnight to music supplied by Miss Kimmer.
