Mr B. Berman, who has sold his business, is now out of harness after 9 years, as a storekeeper in Helensville, and intends visiting the South Island and Australia before commencing in a new line. Messrs Sumner & Screaton, who have taken over his business, have already increased the stock, and intend to make a bid for a full share of public patronage by strict attention to business.

The troubled waters of Parliament were plentifully besprinklep with oil during the debate on the Estimates. Dr Newman made a breathless appeal to the Prime Minister to immediaiely import an expert to report on the oil measures of both islands. He pointed out that petroleum and gas were jutting out of rocks and fissures in many parts of the Do'ninion, and that there was much need of expert advice on the boring industry as to how to bore and where. This line of argument made a strong appeal to Mr Okey, of New Plymouth, Mr Escott, Pahiatua, and several others. Mr Massey smiled enigmatically during the recital.
