Attempted Suicide.
A man named John Thomas Slieldon made a deliberate attempt to take his own life about 2.30 p.m. list Wednesday, at Mrs Oullen's boardinghouse, Helensvillo. Sheldon, who is a gum-digger, lately from Kumeu, lias been iv bad health fov'soma time under Dr. Meinhold, and lately was very much depressed, Previous'to the above mentioned time he procured a large pocket knife and was seen to sharpen it, and proceeded to his becU room, stating he was going to pa.'c his corns; a short time later Mrs Culleu was drawn to the bedroom by hearing a peculiar noise, rinding1 the door locked she burst it open and discovered him lying on the floor in a pooljOf blood, and immediately sent lor Dr. Meinhold and the Police. Examination showed th.it Sheldon had cut his left arm above the elbow with the knife, causing a natty wound, and had also made a nasty gash in his throat. The wounds were dressed and he -n as taken to the Auckland Hospital !>y Constable .Driscoll on Thursday morning.
