POLICE NEWS.
James Hunter reported to Con^ stable Driscoll, on Friday inorn-j ing tho 19th inst., that a purse containing three ten pound notehad been stolen from the pocket of his coat which was banging ur in his bedroom. Consequently Constable Driscoll arrested a man named James Woodward, alias Bryden, who had been emrjloyed by Hunter. Suspect had his meals' at Mr Hunter's house ; lie, being the only stranger that had an access to the rooms, was suspected. The purse containing one pound note and some silvf was" found on Woodward. Great credit is due to Con-;,ab)e Driscoll for the manner in ■■■■Inch lie traced- tho disposal of th< money, and. also I'or the smar^i'fss of the arrest. I Accused was brought i-et'ore i tho Court on Friday last, and adjourned, till Friday, 2(iUi inst. Accused was taken to Auckland Prison on Saturday by Constable I Driscoll.
