LEAP YEAR BALL.
The Leap Year "Ball given by the ladies of Helensville in the Foresters' Hall last Thursday evening was well attended and proved a most enjoyable and successful function, and well repaid the untiting energy, put into the arrangements by the energetic committee consisting of Mesdames D. Stewart, J. A. Wilson, R, C. Hammond, J. F. Lambert, Jnr., M. Meinhold, A. Z. Lambert, 0, Sandin, J. L. Stewart, J, E. Page, and T. Sherriff, Misses H. Fobter, J. Little, N. McLeod, W. McLeod, I, Simcoclc, M, Eimmer and A. Simcock ; which was evidenced in the decorations of the hall, the lycapodium, nikau palms and flowers being very artistically arranged, the stage nicely set out with comfy easy chairs and pot plants, while the supper, oh my, supplied by their very own selves^ was a real sweet xepast, the tables prettily laid out with violets and snowdrops, the good things being highly appre^ ciated bj all. Meredith's orchestra supplied the music, in tune and time to keep the dancers in ecstasy from the grand march to the finale. The Masters of Ceremony, Mesdames A. Z. Lambert, D. Stewart, C. Sandin and Miss J, Little, carried out their duties in a masterly manner, keeping the ladies, who had the previlege of making the engagements during the evening, well supplied with partners, and leaving no masculine wallflowers to blush unseen; while the joint secretarys, Misses F. Donovan and 0. Foster, fullfilled their operose duties creditably. Although there has been no definite statements of the ladies having taking Ml advantage of the great proposal privilege which leap year pi-estimable gives them, the ball of 19.12 will be looked back to as a very en joy ale affair.
