RAILWAY MATTERS.
Mr T. G. Coates, M.P. for Kaipara, has forwarded us the following communication received by him :—" Head Office, Wellington, Oth July, 1912. Sir,—With, reference to your representations urging that the fast train serrice between Auckland and Helensrille should be extended as far as Kaiwaka on three da} s a week, I have the honour to inform you that the line to Kaiwaka has not been handed over to the Railways Department, and owing to the difficulties experienced through the subsidence of some of the "banks, the line will not be ready to liand over for some little time. From the information at present available, however, it is understood that the Volume of traffic will uot be su(fi.i-.ient to warrant compliance with the request. When the line is extended to Otame.tea, which it is anticipated will be done towards the end of the present year, the question will receive further consideration. I have the honour to be Sir, Your obedieDt servant, Arthur JVI.' Myers, Minister for Railways "
rAIKiEKIE AND MAUNOKA^ RAMEA. " It is very unlikely that there will 'be any more agitation over the matter. "Whangarei Avill be satisfied Avith a connection that junctions somewhere between Waikiekie and Maungakarair:ea. The length of that connection would be about sixteen miles." Tins was the opinion expressed by Mr V. Mander, M.P., vvhen asked if the change of gOA'ernment tvoxiW be likely to have any • effect on the battle of the routes for the North Auckland Main Trunk railway.
