TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday evening last. Present Messrs Jas.,.Stewart (chairman), R. C. Hammond, J. A. Wilson, Jas. McLeod, and the Clerk Mr H. Stringer. The Finance Committee met before the ordinary meeting. The minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated Mr Ziman had rented the Board's office at 2s for one half-day a week. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Valnation Departs ment, under date Ist July, notifying the Board that when the de-: claration form was duly signed the Board would be entitled to receive amount due for the year 1911-1912 under section 9 of the Appropriation Act,. 1911.V, , From the Kamo Town^rßpard bringing under the Board's notice Clauses 237, 238, and 239 t)f jthe Local Government Bill, believing' that the passing of such cla/uses into law would seriously injure townships and road districts inasmuch as the revenue derived from such districts would, be ab- ) sorbed in the revenue of the/ Provincial Councils or other large bodies with the costly -upkeep of office •, /staffs highly paid officials. /.■• Also}drawing attention to the fact that at the recent conference Town Boards and Road Boards were not invited to be represented. The Kamo Town Board stated it was their intention to petition Parliament against the passing of law to abolish Town Boards and Road Boards and asking for the Boards co-operation.—Letter received.
From the Post and Telegraph Department, in reference to the Board's complaint re telephonic communication with Auckland, informing the Board that only recently the number of stations oh the circuit were reduced to three, viz., Auckland, Helensville and Henderson, and the records of the work done on., the circuit since, showed that there was ample room for all the woi'k that is probable for some time to come. If the work showed any big increase, it is probable that other arrangements • will be made for the Henderson traffic, which will further relieve Helensville-Auck-land circuit. •The Chairman said the service had certainly improved. ;.A resolution re borrowing from the Union Bank of Australia Ltd, was passed as read. Accounts amounting to £47 8s 4d, and Drainage account £36 Jisßd, were passed for payment. ■■■•-■ The Chairman stated there was £150 due to come off the overdraft. , QMr McLeod asked if application had been made to lift the grant for Ratawhira B»ad. The Chairman said that everything was in ■■• ordery and he had also got authority for £100 for the work going up the hill. The work would soon be done.
• DRAINAGE. Mr McLeod : What had been the expenditure on the drainage work so far. The Chairman:' £182/10/8 had been paid for wages etc. The total expenditure including material was about £300. There was a good deal of material on hand. The question of by-laws in connection with drainage were to be considered at an early date. Mr McLeod thought that taking the cost of the work already done it wouldi take more than anticipated. Pipes would be much cheaper than concrete. He was of opinion that they were putting too much material into the drain. They would never complete it ■for the money. The Chairman :■ Mr Wilson the engineer hoped.'to have a surplus. Mr McLeod thought that small work should be left till weather settled. . Mr Wilson said that to start footpaths at present would stop people getting to their houses. Mr Hammond drew atention'to a bad hple in the road near the Swing Bridge, which required attention. - The Chairman said it was the fruits of heavy traffic during the wet weather. It was slated that weeds were costing a lot to remove from the bowling green. . .A-letter was read from Mr R. MaGGrego'r, Auckland, offering to advise re. the designing- and laying out of the Domain—Letter received. The Chairman stated that the City Council had replied that they could not let Mr Pearson come to Helensville, having reiused other requests for his services from local bodies. Mr McLeod said tliis was a different position, the Springs belonged to the Auckland people. After -i few minor details had been discussed the meeting terminated.
