" H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND " PRESENTATION FUND.

TO TIIE EDITOR. Sir,—ln regard to the movement which has been set on loot by the Ladies of the Timaru Branch of the Navy League to present a silk ensign and Union Jack to " H. M. 8. New Zealand " when she vists the Dominion in January next, may we ask the courtesy of your assistance in this endeavour.

The idea of the promoters is to make the presentation widely representative of " The Women of New Zealand," and in order to give everybody the opportunity of identifj'ing themselves with the movement the general subscription is fixed at one shilling. Ladies preferring to give more maj' of course do so.

Perhaps you would be good enough e;ther to receive amounts subscribed in your distiict and that in which your paper circulates, or in making the ans nouncement public request a volunteer committee of ladies in your neighbourhood to come forward as local collect* ors.

It is hoped and confidently anticipated than an unanimous support will be given to this project from every portion of the Domicinion, and that thereby an unmistakeable indication may be given of the interest the women of our. country take in the splendid vessel which thes have asisted to contribute to the Hoyal Navy and the Empire.

Subscriptions may be sent to the undeisigned, addressed to P, 0. Box 53, Timaiu, and should be made by cheque Bank of Australasia. If your subscriptions could be sont weekly we would be able to know exactly how the movement is progressing and be enabled to take the necessary steps to complete all details as soon as possible.

We are especially anxious that all girls' schools should be given the opportunity of joining in this project, penny or threepenny subscriptions from these being lumped together to form the total contributions from each school.

Thanking you in anticipation for your good offices.

Yours fauhfully. Flohexcz Jones, Acting President Ladies' Committee, Geo. N. G. Akder, Hon. Secretary,

Tirnaru Centre of the Navy League,
