Lighting of Helensville South Station.
For some time agitation has been in progress for lighting at the Helensville South Station which in the past has been in absolute darkness, and numerous complaints have been made by passengers ariving by the evening train, and also by people awaiting arrival of same. At the last meeting of the Town Board the following letters were read from the Chairman of the Town Board to the Traffic Manager of Railways : —" Dear Sir, —It would be of considerable convenience these dark nights if the Railway Department could see their way to have a light erected at either end of the Helensville South Starion platform. The Hotelkeepers in the vicinity tell me that if you will have the lamps erected they will attend to the lighting of same. I would be glad to hear if you could do anything in the matter."
Reply from Traffic Manager : — " Dear Sir, —In reply to your letter of the 7th inst., I have to inform you instructions have been given for the erection of a lamp on the Helensville South shelter shed. I shall be glad if you will kindly arrange for the lighting and extinguishing of same as promised."
We understand that two lamps are to be put up, one at each entrance, and the proprietors of the Kaipara and Helensville Hotels have guaranteed to attend to the lighting and extinguishing of the same. This will be a great boon to the number of people having occasion to use this- station.
