PRESENTATION

. On Friday evening last the many friends of Mr Ralph Smith gathered together in the Foresters' Hall for the purpose of tendering to that leaving a smoke concert on the occasion of his leaving Helensville. There were a large number present and a very enjoyable evening was spent. During the evening a presentation to Mr and Mrs Smith was made to him of a very handsome salad bowl. The Chairman of the Town Board, Mr James Stewart, who presided ,at the concert, made the presentation on behalf of those present; some' very complimentary remarks and references to Mr Smith were made, both by Mr Stewart and Mr Gordon Coates, M.P., Mr Smith suitably responding. A number of musical items, recitations, and stories were given during the evening, some of the singing being particularly good. The following toasts were also proposed and drunk in an enthusiastic manner, " The King," by Mr Rea, " Our Guest, Mr Smith," by Mr Stewart, " Our member, Mr Coates," by Mr Channon, " The Chairman, Mr Stewart," by Mr Coates, M.P. We understand Mr Smith is giving up hotel-keeping for the purpose of going farming, and his many friends here wish him every success.
