WESTLAND COUNTY PROS—PECTING REGULATIONS.

A meeting of the Prospecting Committee of the Westland County Council was held yesterday, at which Messrs M'Whirter (Chairman), Jack, Hansen, and Clarke were present. It was re solved to bring up a report to the Council recommending the following alterations in the regulations for payment for work done, viz.:—

Sinking in dry alluvial ground, same as present rates; in wet ground requiring slabbing, Is 6d per foot additional (at any depth of shaft). Tunnelling and Driving—First 250 feet Is 6d per foot.; 750 to 1000 feet, 3s per foot, and any distance over 1000 feet, 3s 6d per foot. Tunnelling or driving through hard rock requiring blasting, or th'ough png, 5s per foot; tunnels and drives to be at least 5 feet by feet. Timbering wheie required, 3s per 4 foot set; additional, including top laths and side laths where necessary. Driving jump ups, or sinking monkey shafts in tnnne's or drives will be measured from the roof or floor, as the case may lie, and will be paid for at the ordinary shaft rates.
