By mistake in the prices of the Local Bodies Loan Act, recently issued by the Treasury, the sum of £3OOO was put down as the limit allowed to town boards instead of £3OO, The telegram received from Suttor to the Postmaster-General (alluded to in cablegrams) is to the effect that the Government of New South Wales will aid in resisting the increase of the present cable tariff, but strongly urges New Zealand to grant a subsidy on condition that the rates are lowered to 6s per 10 words for general messages, and 3d a word for press telegrams. No further communications have been received from the Cable Company. Christchurch, October 19. The annual session of the Diocesan Synod opened on Tuesday afternoon. The Primate in his opening address referred to the urgent need for Obtaining increased facilities for the religions education of the young, and urged on churchmen the necessity of heartily supporting the wotk of the church generally. October 20. A correspondent of the Lyttelton Times this morning suggests the getting up of a testimonial to Miss Houston in recognition of the vindication of her character. The Kaikoura, on her last trip from Wellington to Lyttelton, made the passage from lighthouse to lighthouse in 11 hours 5 minutes, beating the Kotomahana, which left with her on Monday afternoon, by about an hour cud a half.
