DEATH OF MR. W. J. HURST, M.H.R.
The intelligence of the death of Mr W. J, Hurst, was communicated by cablegram from Mrs Hurst, dated London, October 7, to Mr Kisaling, Manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, with the request that he would intimate the event to friends. The Auckland Herald says;— “The deceased gentleman had for some time past been suffering from heart disease, and last session of Assembly was obliged to obtain leave ot absence from his Parliamentary duties as member for Waitemata, the excitement of the session proving too much for him, and he returned to his beautiful Auckland home at Luke Taka puna. Ills i medical attendants advised birn to take a trip to the mother country, in order to obtain the heneht of the highest medical skill obtainable, but, as it will be seeu from the above announcement, without avail. For nearly a quarter of a century he had taken a conspicuous place in local and colonial politics, serving in the Provincial Council, and having been also Mayor of the city of Auckland. He was a good business man, a good debater, and took a great interest in agricultural maitc.is. Mi Hurst leaves a wife, but no family. JUs life was insured in the Mutual LU'o
Association of Australasia, but we understand the policy had lapsed. The tidings of Mr Hurst’s death will be received with feelings of general regret, and by none more so than his fellow members in the General Assembly.”
