BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening; present—His Worship the Mayor (H. Burger, Esq.), Councillors G. Anderson, Killeen, Olden, Mulvihill, Jorgensen, Fitzsimraons, and Maloney. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved of, and the inward read and received, and considered. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from Property Tax Commissioner, re amount of subsidy on rates The Town Clerk was instructed to supply the required information. Latter from John Murphy, hair dresser, Seddon street, asking leave to erect a sign on the curb.—Request granted, subject to the approval of the Public Works Committee.

From the Treasury, advising amount of gold duty placed to credit of borough.—Received.

Quy’s contract.

On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Or, Killeen, it was resolved that the Public Works Committee be granted an extension of time to bring up a report in reference to A. W. Quy and Co.’s contract. The Council then adjourned for twenty minutes, with leave to sit again. TENDERS AND WORKS. On resuming, the Town Clerk read the report of the Committee, as follows : “1. The Tender Committee recommend that the tender of Mr M'Glone, for carting gravel, &c., being the lowest, be accepted. “ 2. That it be recommended that no tender be accepted for fencing the Borough Reserve; and that the question be referred to a committee of the whole council, as it has been found necessary to a'ter the specifications.” It was resolved that Mr M‘Glone’s tender be accepted, and clause 1 adopted. Clause 2 was also adopted. The Mayor moved—.“ That the Town Clerk write to the County Council stating that this Council were about to fence a portion of tho Borough Reserve, and ask the County Council if they would clear the road reserve opposite the fence, a distance of twenty chains.” The motion was seconded by Cr. Jorgensen, and carried.

Cr.Mnlvihill called attention to the state of a bad place in Cashman street, near the Camp Reserve. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Public Works Committee to report.

This concluded the business of the Council.
