there was ao enormous attendance, great interest being taken in the contest. The Home team, with 42 runs and no wickets down, continued their first innings, which closed for 157, Bates being the highest scorer, with 57, caught. The Home team, being 117 behind the Australians, followed on for their second innings, and made a better stand, their score at the close of the day's play being 231, with seven wickets down. The highest scorers were Bates, bowled, 44; Preston, bowled, 37. At Wimbledon to-day, in the sheoting for the first stage Queen's Prize, the highest English score for seven shots at 200 yards was 34. Lieutenant Fenn, of New South Wales, scored 32 points.
