cholera into the colony by the Royal Mail steamship Donmda, have pubfished their report that the disease was undoubtedly cholera.
Melbourne, April 17. Tho Hon. John James, Minister of Mines, has resigned his portfolio. It is not considered probable the vacancy will be filled up. Rear-Admiral Try on, at present in Melbourne, is consulting with the authorities on the subject of the defences of the colony. He has been informed that a conference will assemble at Sydney on the 26th April, for the consideration of a federal scheme of colonial defence. The Premiers of New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland will be present. It is probable the question of the administration, of New Guinea will be discussed.
