THE CHOLERA IN SOUTH ITALY. (Received April 16, 7.30 p.m.) London, April 15. The Right Hon. Sir Win. VernonHarcourt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, made his Budget Statement in the House of Commons to-night. The revenue for the financial year just closed amounted to £89,500,000, and the expenditure for the same period to £92,000,000, or £2,750,000 more than revenue. The revenue for the ensuing financial year he estimated at £90,500,000, and the expenditure .to £89,875,000. The revenue from the Customs and Excise on alcoholic beverages for the twelve months was £1,000,000 below the estimate. He proposed to meet the deficiency by taking £BOO,OOO from the Sinking Fund. No increase of taxation was contemplated.

His Majesty the Sultan has received from England, Austria, Germany, and Russia replies to his request for action on the part of the Powers in regard to the threatening attitude of Greece towards Turkey and (he disinclination of the Greek Government to disarm when called upon to do so. The despatches pi’omise to take further steps towards the settlement of the difficulty with Greece.
