[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electiuc Telkgkapil— Copyright. THE ANNEXATION OF THE NEW HEBRIDES, &c. DEPUTATION TO THE VICTORIAN PREMIER, HURRICANE AT FIJI. LIVES LOST, AND GREAT DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. (Received March 17, 10.50 p m.) Melbourne, Match 17. Sailed, this morning, for the Bluff, the steamship Manapouri. A deputation from the Australian Natives Association waited upon the Premier, the Hon. Mr Gillies, to-day. In reply to a question put, Mr Gillies snid he had no doubt the Imperial Government were willing to permit the French annexation of the New Hebrides. He also stated that he hoped it would ultimately be possible to re-purchase foreign interests in New Guinea, and perhaps also New Caledonia. (Received March 18, 1.15 p.m.) Sydney, March 18. Intelligence from Fiji states that a severe hurricane passed over the islands <m the 4th March, causing immense damage. The storm was particularly furious at and the town is partially destroyed. Several persons lost their lives, and the damage to property is very large indeed. i
