♦- [REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] Bv Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. GOLDSBROUGH’S WOOL SALES IN MELBOURNE. (Received January 21, 1 a.ra.) Melbourne, January 20. Messrs Goldsbrough and Company, Limited, held their usual weekly wool sales this afternoon. The rooms were crowded with buyers, there being present representatives from England, the continent, and America, in addition to colonial purchasers. A catalogue comprising 3600 bales was submitted to
competition, which was well sustained, the prices keeping firm. 2800 bales were disposed of, greasy merinos selling up to while scoured wools fetched as much as 16d a lb.
Sailed, this morning, the Union steamship Waihora, for the Bluff. January 21. Arrived, this morning, t,he steamship Manapouri, from the Bluff. [Per s.s. Ringarooma, at the Bluff.] Melbourne, January 12. Mr Berry paid a visit to Geelong on Saturday, to meet a number of friends, who expressed a desire that he should re-cousider his determination to surrender the leadership of the Liberal party, Mr Berry said his health required rest, and he would only be away three years. Mr Berry will be the first Protectionist Agent-General for Victoria.
The Melbourne Cricket Club have finally chosen the following ten of thirteen members to compose the Australian team Blackham, Horan, Bruce, Spoffiorth, Palmer, Scott, Bon nor, M‘llraith, Jarvis, George, and Giffen, who all consent to go.
