DESPATCH OF UNITED STATES MAN-OF-WAR TO SAMOA. (Received January 20, 9.50 p. m.) London, January 19. A deputation of loyal Irishmen waited upon the Marquis of Salisbury to-day with reference to the Irish question. The deputation urged upon the Premier the necessity of enforcing the existing Jaws, and deprecated the granting of an Irish Parliament as tending to dismember the empire. Lord Salisbury, in reply, assured the deputation that the Government were mindful of the responsibility placed upon them in dealing with the difficulty, and would not be untrue thereto. (Received January 21, 1 a.m.) January 20. Russia has proposed to the European Powers that further action bo taken, owing to the refusal of Greece and Servia to comply with the circular requiring them to disarm. (Received January 21, 1.44 p.m.) Latest, Tenders for the Otago Harbour Loan of ,£210,000, at 5 per cent., were opened to-day. Tenders at £lO7 8s will receive 70 per cent, of their application; above that, in full, (Received January 20, 9.50 p.m.) Washington, January 19. Instructions have been issued by the Navy Department for the immediate despatch of a United States man-of-war to Samoa. [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE. ) London, January 6. The conference between the AgentsGeueral for the Australian Colonies and Mr Baker with reference to the conditions of the proposed Federal Mail Service between Great Britain and Australia took place to day. The Agents-General approved of the conditions, and it has been arranged that tenders for the transport of mails between England and the Colonies shall forthwith be advertised for. It has been ascertained that the majority of the members of the Liberal party are opposed to the suggestion that an Irish Parliament should be established.
January 7. Mr Baker is delaying calling for tenders for the proposed federal ocean mail service between England and the Australian colonies, until he has received information as to whether the Governments of Queensland, Tasmania, and Western Australia will co-operate in the scheme.
It is announced that the Ministry intend to introduce three separate measures providing for local government in England, Scotland, and Ireland respectively.
The Queen has notified to the Commissioners of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition her willingness to become patron of the Exhibition,
January 9. It is announced that Parliament will he opened by her Majesty the Queen in person on the 21st hist.
January 10. The leading members of the Liberal party will meet in conference on Monday for the purpose of discussing the policy to be adopted by the party in Parliament, with regard to the agitation in Ireland, and other prominent questious.
