THE BURIAL OF THE LATE WILLIAM RYAN.
—♦ In their notice of the-funeral of the late William Ryan, who died at Kmnara on Tuesday last from the effects of injuries received by the fall of a tree at the Taipo, where he was working at the bridge contract, and which took place on Thursday morning the Times reports “ The deceased being an old member of the Westland Kilwinning Lodge of Masons, 467, 5.0., he was accorded a Masonic funeral. The brethren of his Mother Lodge assembled nt the Lodge Room at ten o’clock and there were present a number of visitin" brethren from Ross and Rinm and from the Pacific Lodge of Hokitika, . 6 loc, S e WHS o l«ned in due £ r ni by the R.W.M. Bro. G. J. L. Kerr supported on the right by PM Bra. Michel, Bro J. R. Hudson, P.D.G. beiuor D. G. Steward, S.O ’ ami on the _ left by Bro. James Tricep n.x\l Pacific Lodge, and P.M.E.C. Ihe brethren then moved in procession to the residence of the deceased, in Sale street, P.M.D, Linderaann acting as director of ceremonies. The R.W.M , attended by his supporters, advanced to the head of the coffin and the Masonic funeral service was commenced. J he lid of the coffin was then removed and a velum scroll, on which was emblazoned the uamo of the do-
ceased and the dates of his initiation, passing, and raising, placed therein. The coffin was then placed in the hearse and the procession moved to the cemetery, Bros. Coltmao, Davies, King, and Denker being pall bearers. The burial service of the Presbyterian Church having been impressively read by the Rev. W. Douglas, the Masonic funeral service was continued and concluded by the E.W.M. Bro. G. J. L. Kerr, who delivered the beautiful address of the Masonic ritual with great earnestness and feeling. The service being ended, the brethren reformed and proceeded to the Lodge Room, where the ceremony was concluded.”
