[united press association.] Lyttelton, December 7. The R M.S. Rimutaka leaves on her homeward voyage, via Napier and Wellington, to-morrow afternoon. She takes from Lyttelton over 300 bales of wool, 4000 sacks of wheat, and 5884 .carcases of frozen mutton. The steamer is just out of dock and in fine trim. She will leave Wellington with one of the largest cargoes of wool which has ever left New Zealand in a steamer. Christchubch, December 7. At a meeting of the Railway League held to-day, it was resolved to appoint a paid secretary, who is to devote much of his time to canvassing and activity in promoting the objects of the League. It was agreed to urge on Government the necessity of placing before Parliament next session a scheme for the immediate construction of the main Trunk lines of the colony, including the East and West Coast and Nelson Railway. Thomas Bones was drowned crossing the Wilberforce River on Saturdny His body was recovered and brought to Coalgate to-day. He leaves a wife and eight children. The body of Macallister, seaman on the s.s. Rimutaka, drowned in Lyttelton harbor, was recovered to-day. The City Council to-night accepted the design of S. H. Seager for the new Municipal offices, to be erected at a cost of £SOOO. Wellington, December 5. The Alameda, with the English November mails, left San Francisco on the 22nd November, two days late. The City of Sydney, with the November colonial mails, arrived at San Francisco on the Ist December, time-table date. j Auckland, December 7. Another case of attempted suicide has occurred at the Old Men's Refuge—a man named Grant cutting his throat yesterday. He will probably recover. Michael Moriarty had his head crushed between two logs at Mercury Bay on Thursday. His injuries are expected to terminate fatally. Walter Preston was stabbed in the neck by Arthur Dawson, in Lome street, yesterday afternoon. Later. Dawson was committed for trial for stabbing Preslon. Another case of death has occurred by blood poisoning through the sting of a bee. Suaau Biggan, daughter of R. Biggan, of Epson, was stung by a bee at school, and notwithstanding the efforts of two medical men, she died. Boucicault visited Sir George Grey, at Kawau. ITe leaves for 'Frisco tomorrow. William Gregory, a young man, accidentally shot himself through the head while pig hunting on Sunday, above Mercer.
