KUMARA RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.

QUARTERLY INSPECTION PARADE

The Kumara Rifle Volnnteers paraded for inspection on Friday evening last at the Adelphi Hall. Major Webb, the district adjutant, and Lieut. Spence, the drill instructor, were present. After inspection, the company were marched out, headed by the Brass Band, down Main street, up Seddon street, and back to Main street, when Major Webb put the company through various movements in company and battalion drill, in close and extended order. After an hour's sharp drill, the company returned to the hall, when ActingLieut. Braysbaw was called to put the company through manual and filing and sword-bayonet exercises; after which Major Webb complimented the company for their efficiency, and, addressing Captain Davies, said : "As this is my first visit here since your promotion, I have great pleasure in complimenting you for the way you have maintained the efficiency of the company. It is a company that would be a credit to any part of the world; it shows very excellent physique, and, to the extent to which they have been trained, a most creditable appearance in Sheir movements on parade." On the roll being called, 52 Volunteers answered to their names out of a total strength of 55. To-morrow evening, Tuesday, the usual weekly parade will take place, when the balance-sheet and auditors 5 report will be submitted to the company, and the eleciion of a new committee of management will take place; also the election of handicappers for the rifle match that is to take place for his Worship the Mayor's (Mr H. Burger's) silver cup, that has bt-en kindly presented by him as a prize to the company.
