The ship North American, which left for London in February last, has been posted as missing at Lloyds. The Union Company's steamship Wsiihora, arrived last night from the Bluff. The trial of Milne Smith for robbery from the Horsham Branch of the London Chartered Bank in March, ISB4, was concluded to-day, when the prisoner was acquitted. The new Licensing Bill is being pushed forward as rapidly as possible, and has already made considerable progress in Committee. (Received September 10, 2.30 p.m.) Adelaide September 10. The bill providing for the payment of members, which was recently passed by the South Australian Legislative Assembly, has been rejected by the Legislative Council. ship Australia, sailed this afternoon for San Francisco, via Auckland, with the homeward English mail. She takes specie valued at £87,750 from this port. Advices to hand from New Guinea announce the safe arrival there of Sir Peter Scratchley, High Commissioner, with his attendants ; all being well.
