Despatches received from Admiral Paschiu, commanding the German squadron at Zanzibar, state that on the 11th in«t. he presented an ultimatum to the Sultan. As no reply was received for four-and-twenty hours, the fleet anchored opposite the Sultun's Palace, where it now remains. It is nob thought, however, that the town will be bombarded, as the Sultan is expected to bring about a peaceful settlement, by acceding to the demands of Germany. [special to press association.] London, August 11. The payment of the Irish members of Parliament fund has been augmented by a subscription of £IOOO received from Australia. Archbishop Moran returns to Sydney on the 16th inst. August 12. Messrs W. W. Tickle and Co., merchants and Australian agents, have become bankrupts, with liabilities amounting to £38,000. Their assets amount to £12,000. In the House of Lords Lord Salisbury moved a vote of thanks to the Australian Contingent for their services in the Soudan. In his speech he eulogised the gallantry, discipline, zeal, and good conduct displayed by the men. Lord Carrington, in seconding the motion, proudly referred to the patriotic zeal which had inspired the men to offer their services. The Duke of Cambridge also spoke in high terms of the contingent. In the House of Commons, in moving a similar vote, Sir M. HicksBeach said the expedition to the Soudan would be rendered ever memorable by the presence of the contingent. The motions were carried amidst enthusiasm.
