Upon receiving the intelligence of the passing of the Federation Enabling Bill, the Premier of the colony, Sir Alexander Stuart, wired to Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General in London, expressing regret that the measure had been passed in the form described, which, he stated, would prevent New South Wales from joining the federal body. He considered the title of the bill, therefore, as now a misnomer, and suggests that it shou’d be called a bill providing for a Federal Council for a part of the Australius only.
