[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. THE MELBOURNE OMNIBUS DRIVERS' STRIKE. FREE NAVIGATION OF PORT PHILIP HARBOUR. (Received August 3, 12.45 p.m.) Melbourne, August 3. The Peninsular and Oriental Company's steamship Pekin arrived yesterday morning from London. The drivers in the employ of the Melbourne Omnibus Company have struck work, demanding a reduction in their work to eight hours per diem. A Gazette notice has been issued announcing that the restrictions which have been enforced for some time past with regard to the entrauce of vessels to Port Philip are now removed, and that free navigation to all parts of the harbor is now permitted. (Received August 4, 1 a.m.) Later. The trial by court-martial of the insubordinate members of the Victorian Permanent Artillery Force is still proceeding. The Melbourne Omnibus Company has declined to accede to the demand of the drivers for a reduction of the working time to eight hours, and the drivers have accordingly decided to remain on strike.
