Arrived, the Union Company's steamship Rotomahana, for Auckland, this afternoon. The inquiry into the wreck of the Australian Steam Navigation Company's . steamship Cahors will be reopened on Wednesday next, when the Board will take further evidence for the defence. (Received July 21, 1.40 p.m.) Melbourne, July 21. The Hon. Mr Service, Premier, has received a communication from the Queensland Government agreeing to withdraw their protest against the postponement of the Federation Enabling Bill; and has accordingly telegraphed to Murray Smith, the Victorian Agent-General, instructing him to withdraw opposition to clause 31, as originally framed by the Convention. Sir Alexander Stuart, the New South Wales Premier, subsequently telegraphed to-Mr Service statiug that the Government of New South Wales was desirous to retain the clause in the present form, and that in view of other amendments they wished to introduce in the measure, the agreement proposed by Mr Service was impossible. Mr Service thereupon wired to Murray Smith to use his utmost endeavours to let nothing stop the progress of the bill.
